How it works

From a photo of your naksa to an area, in five steps

The whole thing takes about two minutes the first time, and less after that.

  1. Upload or scan

    Pick a file, drag it in, paste it, or press Scan to photograph the naksa. HEIC, JPG, PNG, WEBP and AVIF all work.

  2. Calibrate the scale

    Tap the two ends of a line whose real length you know — a boundary dimension, a road width — and type that length. For a flat scan, pick the drawing scale instead.

  3. Save it as a template

    Name the calibration and it is stored in your browser. The next drawing of the same type is ready to measure immediately.

  4. Trace the boundary

    Tap each corner in order. Pinch to zoom, drag a corner to nudge it, tap an edge to insert one between two others. Every edge length is labelled as you go.

  5. Read the area

    Press Calculate for the full breakdown across all four unit systems, then copy or export the summary.

On a phone your finger covers the spot you are aiming at, so holding and sliding opens a magnifier that shows the exact point and commits only when you lift.

By field lengths

Best when you measured the plot yourself with a tape. Sketch the shape, press Auto-connect & triangulate to build the base corner and diagonals, then type in each measured length. Area comes from Heron's formula, so the sketch needs no scale at all.

The sketch is then solved into the real shape: your lengths already determine the true polygon, so it is laid over your drawing with the corners moved as little as possible.

Accuracy

Getting a number you can rely on

  • Calibrate on the longest known line you can find. A short reference multiplies any tapping error across the whole plot.
  • Shoot the drawing flat and square on. A tilted photo stretches one side of the sheet, which no single scale factor can correct.
  • Zoom in before tapping corners. At high zoom a stray pixel is worth centimetres instead of metres.
  • Sanity-check with the scale bar. The ruler in the corner of the canvas shows what the calibration means on the ground — if 20 ft looks wrong against the drawing, recalibrate.
  • Cross-check one edge. Compare a labelled edge length against a dimension printed on the naksa before trusting the total.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate land area from a photo of my naksa?

Yes. Upload a photo or scan of the drawing, calibrate it against one line whose real length you know, then tap around the plot boundary. The area comes from the traced shape and the calibrated scale.

Does GharNaksa Naapi Plotter support HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. HEIC and HEIF files are decoded in the browser and converted automatically, so you can upload straight from an iPhone without changing your camera settings or converting anything first.

How accurate is measuring land area from an image?

Accuracy depends on your calibration reference and how precisely you tap the corners. Calibrate against a long, clearly drawn line and zoom in before tapping. A flat scan beats an angled phone photo, because a tilted camera distorts the sheet. Treat the result as planning-grade, not a legal survey.

What if my naksa has no printed scale?

Use the Known length method rather than the drawing scale. Any line you can identify in real terms works — a dimensioned boundary, a road width, or a wall you measured on site.

How many square feet is 1 Ropani?

1 Ropani is 5,476 square feet, about 508.74 square metres. It divides into 16 Anna, 64 Paisa or 256 Dam.

How many square feet is 1 Bigha?

1 Bigha is 72,900 square feet, about 6,772.63 square metres. It divides into 20 Katha or 400 Dhur, and equals roughly 13.31 Ropani.

Is my naksa image uploaded to a server?

Decoding, calibration and area calculation all run inside your browser. GharNaksa may securely store a copy of uploaded drawings to improve the free tools; projects and calibration templates stay in your own browser storage.

Can I measure land without a drawing at all?

Yes. Switch to By lengths, sketch the plot shape, and enter the measured field lengths in feet and inches. The area is computed by splitting the shape into triangles from a base corner.
